New to For Yarn's Sake

Alice Starmore Aran KnittingAlice Starmore Aran Knitting. The definitive guide to designing and knitting in the ever-popular Irish Aran tradition, Alice Starmore's highly sought after book returns to print after a decade’s absence. And not just reprinted, but republished in a new expanded edition. It encompasses a history of Aran knitting, as well as a complete workshop in technique, pattern, and design. The Preface also talks about the author's three modern contributions to the recognized motifs of "Aran knitting": the anchor, the heart, and the knotwork motif from her Sigil design (included in this book). All three of these personally designed motifs use the author's unique technique for knitting the unbroken, continuous line that characterizes all interwoven Celtic knotwork patterns. The sixty easy to read charted patterns include the original edition's 14 designs, plus a beautiful new ladies’ sweater, Eala Bahn, with set-in sleeves and waist shaping. Gorgeous color photographs set among the picturesque shores and historic landscape of Scotland depict finished caps, sweaters, and shawls. Beginners and experienced knitters alike will cherish this comprehensive guide to a beloved craft. A must for every knitter’s library!
