The HerStory Sock Club was born out of a desire to learn more about women who have made a difference, the unsung heroines. In 2021, HerStory is all about showcasing women who've devoted their lives to making the world a better place, paving the way for the next generation of world-betterers. We're quite excited about the list of fabulous Hers being highlighted this year, and can’t wait to tell their story in color!
August honors Mumilaaq Qaqqaq - a member of Canada's Parliament who rose to prominece after making an impassioned speech on International Women's Day in 2017. Part of a group called Daughters of the Vote, Mumilaaq, an Inuit, spoke of the high suicide rate among Indigenous people, and shared her vision for a Canada in which Indigenous issues are front and center. She won her seat on a platform that centered the basic human rights of Inuit people, including suicide prevention, securing food security and access to safe water, and increased access to safe housing.
The Aurora Borealis colorway pays homage to the otherworldly-seeming light displays enjoyed in Mumilaaq's beloved Nunavut home territory, and to the light that she is in Canadian activism.
