Stranded Colorwork – The Buggiflooer Beanie (A Zoom Event)
Sunday September 17, 1:30-3:30pm PDT
Michele Lee Bernstein / PDXKnitterati
Master the stranded colorwork technique and learn to knit the official pattern of Shetland Wool Week 2023 – an event held annually in Scotland’s Shetland Islands, celebrating its native wool and associated crafts. This year’s design was created by Shetland’s own darling of knitwear design Alison Rendall. Alison’s hat is a distinctive design that incorporates traditional elements together with a flower motif. She chose the name Buggiflooer – a Shetland name for ‘Sea Campion’ – which grows in abundance near her home by the sea. The beanie combines two to six colors of Shetland wool, depending on the version you choose. The perfect project for those new to stranded color knitting!
Supplies you’ll need – Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift yarn; 2-color version – 2 balls / 50 grams of each color; 6-color version – 1 ball / 25 grams in each of six colors. 16” US 2 (3mm) circular needle, and Buggiflooer Beanie pattern, available for purchase at http://www.shetlandwoolweek.com/knitting-pattern/ Stitch marker. Highlighter tape (or your preferred method to track rows / rounds on a chart).
We've made it even easier. Buggiflooer Beanie kits are available in the five color combinations shown, as well as a unique version created by fellow Shetland designer Gudrun Johnston. Purchase yours HERE.
