Our 2025 Shop Patterns

Our two patterns this year speak to the 2025 Crawl's theme, Our Sky Full of Stars. For both, we drew inspiration from the constellation, Cassiopeia - fondly referred to as 'The Queen's Chair.' Once again, both scarves feature the wildly popular technique, assigned pooling.

Queen's Chair
(Knit)

Designed by Anne Lindquist

Queen’s Chair draws its inspiration from the constellation Cassiopeia.  A long, narrow scarf, Queen’s Chair incorporates Assigned Pooling nupp stitches, allowing you to play with this new, wildly popular technique.  The scarf starts with subtle shaping, recreating the formation of Cassiopeia’s five star formation, said to look like Queen Cassiopeia’s throne – hence, the Queen’s Chair. The tiny clusters of nupps dance across the rich deep blue backdrop, much like twinkling stars in the Pacific Northwest night sky, creating a unique, one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

“Assigned pooling occurs when a change in stitch and texture is assigned to changes in color within a skein of variegated yarn.”
Dawn Barker, Barker Wools

A very special acknowledgement (and thank you) to Dawn Barker – the creative force behind the knitting technique, assigned pooling – for both inventing and inspiring the special stitches used in this pattern.

Star Queen
(Crochet)

Designed by Shelly Dinh

Shelly's design was also inspired by the constellation Cassiopeia - queen of Ethiopia, and wife to King Cepheus. Myths differ about her. In some, she bragged that she was prettier than the Nereids. In other versions, it was her daughter, Andromeda, whom she claimed was prettier than the Nereids. Either way, Cassiopeia made an enemy of Poseidon and was punished upon her death. The gods placed her in the sky, forced to sit on her throne of stars for eternity. She continually rotates around the north celestial pole, so part of the time she's upside down and must cling to her throne. The constellation is made up of 5 stars which represent her throne. Shelly's pattern uses a chevron shape that mimics the design of the constellation.

Queen's Chair (knit) and Star Queen (crochet), are both worked with the same Madelinetosh yarns -  your choice of either Twist Light (plied, 75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon, 420 yards / 100 grams), or Tosh Merino Light (single ply, 100% SW Merino, 420 yards / 100 grams). Madelinetosh  created two custom colorways exclusively for us and the 2025 Rose City Yarn Crawl. Queen's Chair* is a beautiful assigned pooling colorway, featuring pops of cream speckled with gold and pink set against a deep night-sky blue. Night Swimming is a solid tonal, matching the deep blue background color found in Queen's Chair*. Each of our designs is worked with two skeins of either Twist Light or Tosh Merino Light - one each of Queen's Chair* and Night Swimming. We've put together two kits in both Madelinetosh yarns to make it easy - just choose your base. Continuing to Support Our Community

As in past years, 10% of our shop pattern kit sales will be donated to Michael's Place. Created in 2005, Michael’s Place is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization where adults with developmental disabilities have the time of their lives working and playing with 50 Miniature Horses, 6 alpacas, and gathering eggs from 25 chickens. Individuals with disabilities who may be afraid of a standard size horse jump at the chance to embrace the small ponies. Their goals are to help each participant have a good day, teach skills, increase self-esteem, increase confidence, mobility, and recognized as productive successful individuals. We're incredibly excited to support the ongoing good work of this wonderful organization, offering a unique environment for adults with special challenges to thrive.
