Dip your toes into the pool in this introductory class that will teach you the basics of this exciting and innovative new technique. IAnd taught by the master of assigned pooling herself, Dawn Barker of Barker Wools. In this two-hour class, we'll explore:

  • Why yarns pool and how to make pooling the feature instead of an eyesore;
  • The anatomy of a hand-dyed variegated Assigned Pooling skein; 
  • Basic color theory and how it applies to Assigned Pooling;
  • How shape and direction affect pooling dispersion;
  • Demonstration of Assigned Pooling texture stitches;
  • Cast on the Rover pattern together.

Supplies you'll need. 100 grams fingering weight assigned pooling yarn, US 4 (3.5mm) 24-32-inch circular needles, scale that weighs in grams. The Rover pattern is included in the class notes, which will be emailed to you once enrolled. You will receive a Zoom invitation one week prior to the class.

 

Dawn Barker is the creative force behind the knitting technique, assigned pooling. Through countless hours exploring the dynamics of color pooling and textured stitches, she developed this compelling knitting method to make the most of hand-dyed yarns. A lifelong fiber lover and fine artist, Dawn started Barker Wool in 2017 to share her hand-dyed fine yarns and clean, modern knitting designs with the world. She lives in Amarillo, Texas with her husband and two sons.
