Dream In Color yarns at For Yarn's Sake

Take Time to Dream Every Day

We’d like to tell you a little bit about how we started Dream in Color. Our friendship goes way back, as does our love of color and all things knitting. We began as colleagues at a Waldorf school, where the curriculum’s emphasis on creativity and hands-on learning using colorful and natural materials was a perfect fit for us. We understood how enriched children and adults’ lives can be surrounded by beautiful objects and harmonious color. Knitting and yarn was a passion for both of us. So in 2004 we opened a yarn store and collaborated as colleagues in a new endeavor.

In early 2006, Veronica, a life-long artist, decided to experiment with dyeing a few yarns for our store. She wanted to replicate a water color technique that she had learned as part of her training in the Waldorf school. Her experiments with color and dyeing in the shop’s back room evolved, and Dream in Color’s special, veil dyeing technique was perfected.

What began as a small, part-time operation with eight available colors dyed on just four bases quickly blossomed into a full-time job, and we closed the shop in 2006 to concentrate entirely on running Dream in Color. Still independently owned and operated, Dream in Color has now expanded its line to feature 15 yarn bases and over 150 colors.

To this day, we continue to be inspired by the richly-textured hues found in nature, and we’re passionate translating that beauty into luxuriant yarns of exceptional quality. As an independent American business, Dream in Color is dedicated to using domestic fibers and mills whenever possible. And, as always, their dreaming and their dyeing happen here in the USA.

Thanks for reading our story, and enjoy our yarns!
