Uber-soft extra yummy merino wool. An admirable social agenda, supported with each purchase. What could be better.

The Manos Cooperatives were founded in 1968 by a group of five women whose goal was to develop economic opportunities for women in a country where few opportunities existed for work. They began modestly by selling handcrafts at local shops and the annual agricultural show in Montevideo. In time, spinning, dyeing, weaving and knitting became the focus of the Coop's efforts. Today, the Manos Cooperatives have expanded to encompass 17 individual cooperatives, employing 350 artisans. With each purchased skein of Manos del Uruguay yarn you'll be helping a woman to support her family. Each skein is signed by the lovely lady who made your yarn, and notes the name of her South American village.

For Yarn's Sake is delighted to have Maxima to our line-up of fabulous merino wools. Maxima is a super soft and squishy kettle-dyed yarn. The worsted weight one-ply construction makes it a great all purpose yarn, and the fantastic yardage makes it perfect for 1 skein accessory projects. Fun, bright, intense colors will make your hand made item stand out from the crowd!
