The Wooly Cabin

Who is the Wooly Cabin?

My name is Dawn Dooley and I am the owner and dyer at The Wooly Cabin. I live and dye in a log cabin – The Wooly Cabin. I have been knitting since I was about 10 years old, taught by my mom. I have also been spinning off and on for about 20 years. I am married, a mom to 3 grown kids, and a nurse (still working a few days per month). My favorite thing to do is to knit  socks, but I have also knit shawls, cowls, mittens and a few sweaters. I have not always dyed yarn though, this was a new thing in the Spring of 2018. I watched videos and gave it a try. I’ve always loved the idea of having a fiber sort of business, so after figuring out how to dye yarn, it was a natural progression for me to start The Wooly Cabin. This is my dream job and includes dyeing, promoting, photographing, planning, packing, mailing, wholesale selling, and attending shows with all it’s packing, traveling, and interacting with customers (my favorite part!!!) I especially love the creative process in coming up with color combinations, and love helping people come up with ideas or combinations for specific projects as well as meeting people at fiber and yarn shows. Recently, I have moved from dyeing yarn in my kitchen, to a dye studio in my basement. This has been a wonderful convenience to have work separated from home and be able to leave things out and easily able to start and stop as needed. I am still hoping to increase my ability to dye more at one time, and to increase my business so that I am able to make a living from my dream job. If I can help you with combinations, ideas, or any other fiber-y things, please let me know
