Saturday November 15th, 2-4:30pm
Anne Lindquist
Don’t let colorwork intimidate you. It’s an easy, and fun technique that should be in every knitter’s bag of tricks. With a few tips and techniques, you’ll master the skills needed to create beautiful, colorful knitted pieces. In just a few hours, you’ll learn the basics of making mittens, how to properly manage multiple colors of yarn at once, the essential skill for colorwork – reading a chart, and a few special tricks to make your final creation shine. We’ll also visit the Magic Loop method for knitting small circumferences in the round.
Prerequisite skills. Students should know how to knit and purl, cast on and bind off, and work small circumferences in the round.
Supplies you’ll need. Worsted weight non-superwash yarn in 2 contrasting colors (approximately 50 grams each); US 4 (3.5mm) and 6 (4mm) needles for knitting small circumferences in your preferred method; stitch marker; waste yarn; tapestry needle; Building Blocks Mittens pattern, available for purchase on Ravelry HERE.
Prior-to-class homework. Cast on 36 stitches using your preferred method for knitting small circumferences in the round. Work knit 1, purl 1 ribbing until piece measures 2 inches from cast-on edge. If unfamiliar with Magic Lop but planning to learn this technique, cast on and work homework with DPNs, and we’ll transfer your work in class. You’ll need a 40-inch US 6 (4mm) needle to work the body of the mitten using the Magic Loop method.
*This is an in-person class, held at For Yarn’s Sake. $55, plus supplies.
